McKeen's 2017-18 Yearbook - Scouting: Energetic undersized yet durable forward that compliments scoring units .. defensive maturity and work ethic make him an excellent plug-n-play through the lineup .. generates tremendous thrust from an explosive, wide-track stride .. creates openings with hustle and dynamic straightaway gear .. can gain separation with only a few strides .. not as adept or stable in turns, pivots and directional changes however .. lacks elite in-close puck control and stickhandling abilities which hampers 1-on-1 situations .. strong in traffic and proficient below the goal line – cycling and creating scoring chances out front .. good hockey sense and defensive support positioning .. has emerged as a good link up player, or adept on his own to move the puck up ice .. if there's a flaw it's a lackluster slot presence. Analysis: Bill Masterton Trophy nominee once again, dressed for an entire season once again, bringing his iron-man streak to 786 games – chasing Steve Larmer now at 884 games .. fired career high in shots at 5v5 – virtually no power play time – and contributed 20% more shot attempts, alongside Ryan Kesler and Jakob Silfverberg (830 mins, 57.1 GF% & 54 CF%) .. led the Ducks in Corsi For percentage, consistently on the ice with a positive shot differential relative to when not on the ice – an element of the defensive game and ability to transition .. dependable and reliable, scores in the mid-30’s, without any power play time to better those results.
15-16 Report/16-17 Outlook: Current NHL iron man hasn’t missed a single NHL game, carrying a current streak of 704 games – the second longest active streak in the NHL from the beginning of an NHL career .. He has become an integral plug and play fit for the Ducks with speed and checking ability providing an important ingredient .. started the season mired in a two-points in 16 games funk when he was placed on a line with Jakob Silfverberg and Ryan Kesler (352 mins, 64.3 GF% & 53.5 CF%) at mid-season after Shawn Horcoff (363 mins, 47.4 GF% & 54.1 CF% at 5v5) was suspended for PED use and Carl Hagelin (180 mins, 44.4 GF% & 58.1 CF%) had been dealt to Pittsburgh .. scored career low five goals, firing 4.35% iSh% (career low), with points on 78.8% of on-ice goals, scoring career low 15.2% himself, almost half his career average .. consecutive seasons with a decline in goals from a career high 21 in ’13-14 to 15, to nine in ’15-16 .. strong finish following a nine-game pointless funk, with 12 points in the final 15 (15-2-10-12) would spill over into the postseason with four points (7-2-2-4) as part of the Ducks best offensive line .. consistent and a valuable role player, with no powerplay time but effective on the penalty kill - he may have hit his equilibrium range at 28-35 points – with goals closer to 15 than nine .. keep expectations in line despite success with Kesler and Silfverberg.
13-14 Report .. Enjoyed his most productive season since his debut in Edmonton back in 2007-08 breaking the 20 goal mark for the first time (82-21-21-42) .. continued his incredible run of consistent health, having not missed a single game in his seven year career .. a speedy winger who can be used up and down the lineup .. rarely deployed on the power play (13 seconds a game), however, playing a more significant role on the shorthanded unit, skating 1:35 nightly .. possession stats are par for the course, sitting with a 5v5 CF rating of 48.6% .. despite seeing a lot of time at center earlier on in his career he took only 27 draws in 2013-14 .. signed long-term with the Ducks through 2017-18 .. will have to battle against internal competition for one of the top six winger positions .. at 27 year’s old it’s unlikely that he’ll see significant power play time, as the addition of Kesler has stiffened competition even further .. never quite developed into the offensive force many had hoped he’d become after an electric start for the Oilers .. reliable and proven to be effective in a second/third line combo role .. goal scoring the past two seasons has been supported by a slightly high shooting percentage .. the type of depth player that teams covet, providing roster flexibility filling whatever role is needed .. should be pencilled in for 15 goals with the potential for more.
12-13 Report: Best season of career for versatile and energetic 26 year old forward keeping a 22 goal pro-rated pace .. led Ducks in 5v5 shooting percentage (14.06%) and career high 16.46% overall .... lined up alongside Saku Koivu and Daniel Winnik to form a productive shutdown unit .. combined with rookie Etem on occasion to produce an interesting speedy, tenacious penalty kill .. underrated as a multi-faceted and versatile option .. started slow with an eight game pointless streaking after scoring four points in his first two games .. moved up alongside Getzlaf/Perry at the end of February, after recording a 3-game goal streak, (3-4-0-4) and adding another before scoring a hat trick in early March .. during the first 29 games, he was on the ice when the Ducks scored 22 times at even strength, and only six time when the Ducks were scored on .. iron man has dressed in 458 straight games, ranking third among active players in the NHL .. named Bill Masterton nominee for Anaheim.
