Suddenly sparked to life for the playoffs - finding a home on the second line - after trudging through a miserable regular season .. thrived once installed alongside Mike Richards and Jeff Carter for the second round of the playoffs - contributing a pair of game-winning goals - including the series overtime winner in the conference finals .. mystifying in the regular season, frequently appearing lethargic and avoiding the dirty areas altogether - and a healthy scratch for five February games .. injuries played a part - missing nine games to a November hand injury plus a game in January to back spasms from eating his wife's pancakes - a humourous folly that spun into a charitable opportunity - 'Pancakes with Penner' raffle .. should be ready for camp after undergoing summer surgery to repair an old wrist problem.
