Fair point. The title is probably a bit too one sided. My thinking is that while hockey is certainly a form of entertainment, it isn’t one in the way that a movie or a concert is. And the trap that we (the viewer) can sometimes fall into is when we try to put them in the same bucket.
The evolution of stats is telling us that more and more is out of our hands (although the better team will win MOST of the time, that “most” may only be 62%).
Great question though, it’s a fun topic to discuss since I’ll concede there isn’t a right or wrong answer.
]]>Unexpected things can ” just happen” anytime anything is performed live, be it theater, music…anything. Yes, there is a way that these things are typically supposed to go, but it doesn’t always happen. Does this make it not entertainment? Just because you don’t know the way something is going to turn out doesn’t mean it’s not entertainment.
One thing that makes sports (and other games for that matter) a little different from most forms of entertainment in my eyes is that you can lose. You can’t really lose at watching a movie or listening to music.
