Welcome to our AHL Goalie Power Rankings report. As you know, we already publish a monthly report for NHL organizational goalie depth through our NHL Depth Charts. But with so many top-flight goalie prospects honing their skills in the AHL, we wanted to provide a simple and straightforward power ranking for each team's tandem.
The AHL Goalie Power Rankings re-evaluates the strength of all 30 AHL tandems every two weeks through personal projections on overall talent, upside, goalie coaching support, recent performance, and other elements of goalie analysis. It is what we call a "progressive" ranking in the sense the ranks are adjusted from the original and initial preseason rank, which you can view right here.
As the top developmental league in North America, it is important that we track the progress of these goaltenders, as many of them are included in our Top-150 Prospects Rankings. The AHL not only develops elite goaltenders by allowing them to polish their game against elite talent, but it is also a league where darkhorses are bred, and otherwise unknown European stars are truly born.
