Scouting Report – Michael “Mikey” McLeod

Michael  “Mikey” McLeod

Forward - 6’1”, 160 lbs

Toronto Marlboros - GTHL

Not a stranger to high caliber hockey at the minor midget level, McLeod has already impressed scouts throughout his major bantam season.  McLeod not only fit in physically with the 1997 Marlboros when called up, but was one of their most effective forwards on most nights he played with them.  Among his 1998 birth year peers, McLeod has consistently stood out. McLeod is the most explosive Ontario forward in the age group with respect to skating ability. His first steps launch him past the opposition resulting in spectacular end to end rushes with the puck.  Not limited by north-south movement, McLeod is agile and has very quick edges, allowing him to maneuver past opponents at high speeds, cutting in from the wing to create scoring chances or at the very least, draw a penalty. McLeod’s quick feet grant him mobility in tight spaces just as well. A strong defensive zone presence is evident through his quickness and anticipation while his ability to make tape to tape passes leads to strong transition play. With puck possession, McLeod is an offensive powerhouse. A large part of his success stems from his ability to play at such a high tempo under pressure. Superior puck skills allow him to control flow in the offensive zone while creating space for himself. Easily capable of walking out from the corner and into the slot, McLeod is a threat from anywhere in the offensive zone, but especially down low. Perhaps most impressive is his ability to manufacture plays, setting up teammates to score. McLeod sees the ice very well, even in top speed flight and creates dynamic offence with one-touch passes and well placed pucks. Playing with his head up, McLeod shows very strong hockey sense, assessing positions, displaying patience with the puck, and making an extra pass when needed to throw off defenders. A projected top line offence driving player at the next level, Michael McLeod is expected to be a top ten pick in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection.

Note: McLeod was recently selected to participate in the upcoming Allstate All-Canadians Mentorship Camp along with other top Canadian players entering their minor midget year.
