Midget AAA: College Charles-Lemoyne Riverains up and down season for deep, young team.

The College Charles-Lemoyne Riverains have had their ups and down this season but with a deep lineup of solid young talent, they could be taking further steps forward as the season progresses. Mckeen’s Hockey Rick Springhetti reports on many of their 15 year olds.

 Vincent Chapleau, Centre, Charles-Lemoyne, 2016

Finesse player with smooth and quick hands .. absolutely dominant in the face-off circle, he is used in all important situations.. skating stride is smooth but his edgework needs to get a little better .. also needs to work his overall strength to improve his speed and capacity to win battles for position .. wristshot is hard and released quickly .. can engage a little as he tends to stay in the peripheries .. tends to try to use his stick to defend in his zone leaving his opponents with too much room .. possesses all the tools to improve a good deal as his career progresses as the shortcoming can be addressed as he gets older.

 Samuel Cyr-Ledoux, Centre, Charles-Lemoyne ,2016

Assistant captain is a stocky player with powerful core strength .. very explosive first step quickness .. able to make very sharp and controlled turns .. doesn’t react very quickly in the offensive zone affecting his point production .. puts himself in good position to support his teammates in his own zone .. excels in defensive situations where his speed and aggressive approach to the puck carrier causes many turnovers for opponents .. tends to be a little impatient at times and takes himself out of position .. not afraid to take a hit to make a play .. needs work on his faceoff skills .. very hard-working, emotional player who plays with an edge.

 David Gregoire, LW, Charles-Lemoyne , 2016

Goal scoring forward who plays on his off-wing .. excellent shot on net with power and good movement .. handles the puck well at top speeds .. low centre of gravity makes it difficult to knock him off the puck when he is moving at top speeds .. passes are crisp and on target .. gets caught up in his offensive game to the point where he something neglects his defensive responsibilities .. not a very fluid skater but his stride is powerful enough for him to reach good speeds .. will have to stop taking careless stick penalties if he wants to see more ice-time.

 Charles Antoine Poirier-Turcotte, goaltender, Charles-Lemoyne, 2016

Goaltender with very good instincts .. hybrid goaltender who can rely on his reflexes if need be .. able to track puck through traffic effectively .. quick glove hand .. tends to drop his blocker a little leaving himself vulnerable to high shots .. has a frustrating habit of overhandling the puck leading to some dangerous situations .. very calm demeanor under pressure .. displays good overall awareness of where he is at all times rarely taking himself out of positions .. could improve his flexibility a little .. needs to work at keeping his stick down and square to the ice as he sometimes keeps it crooked when moving laterally .. shows very good overall confidence in tight games.

 Xavier Vinetti, defenceman, Charles-Lemoyne, 2016

Strong, physical defenseman .. hits with authority at every opportunity and does so effectively as he is solid on his feet .. like a lot of players his age, can be guilty of running around looking for a hit .. displays a nice stride going forward using his arms well to gain speed .. footwork and speed has to be worked on but should improve as he grows into his body .. has a lot of difficulty with his pivots .. doesn’t have very good passing ability and will either try to get the puck to a teammate or just use the boards to get puck out of his zone .. blocks shots regularly .. will not let opponent get near the crease without getting in their face but at the same time, won’t overdo it and get silly penalties.

 Anthony Wojcik, RW, Charles-Lemoyne ,2016

Very strong forward .. labored skater who has to better control his turns .. used in all defensive situations due to his understanding of positional play and general commitment to this aspect of the game .. willing to pay the price to help his team win .. blocks shots and battles hard against opponents on the boards or in the corners .. plays a straight-ahead game in the offensive zone .. goes right to the net when his team has the puck .. shot is heavy but his release is a little slow .. has trouble handling the puck at high speed .. tends to play with blinders on missing out on scoring opportunities off the rush .. reliable overall player who has the confidence of his coaching staff.
